Subject: [M-Class] Accident

I was involved in an interesting accident yesterday in my 00 ml320. I was 
driving in the right lane of a 3 lane highway when the other car, a 92 
pontiac flew past me in the middle lane, with what sounded like his brakes 
screeching, his left rear wheel flew off [ tire , rim and brake assy], his 
car swerved in front of me hitting a guard rail, spun around in front of me 
and landed in the left hand lane with his front headed toward traffic. I 
believe that the ml saved my life as when I applied the brakes, the brake 
assist kicked in and stopped the truck in a controlled manner . My damage was 
confined to the front bumper and a few scratched caused by shrapnel coming 
off of the other vehicle....Geico estimated the damage at $1700. I took the 
truck into MB for a safety check and mechanically the vehicle was OK.The 
other car was another story....his car was totalled...both airbags went off 
and driver ended up in an ambulance. The fact that I lived to tell this story 
is testamount to the fine safety features of this truck.
