"Are they ever fantastic! I have read in other posts that the ride would be a bit harsher however I found the exact opposite. Up here in the north [Edmonton, Alberta] we have SERIOUS potholes. I don’t know if it’s softer rubber or more give in the tires but the ride is WAY smoother! The speedo being out… well now I just drive the exact speed limit and the oversize tires will automatically put me 13% over, less math to do while driving." "I also bought a (1.5)X 40 HEX metric bolt and cut the end off for assisting with switching the tires. It made it so easy!!"

"been off-roading my ML for years. You definitely need LT rated tires. You gain about an inch to inch and a half. Plus you can crank up your torsion bars to get another inch of clearance. The combination gives you 12 inches of clearance, which is as much or more than the Touareg, Cayenne, RR, Disco, etc. I've been driving like this for years with no ill effects."

BFG Baja T/A Rock
On the Dakar 2005 many teams, including Mitsubishi and VW use the BFG Baja T/A Rock in a relatively narrow racing dimension 235/85 R16. It has six nylon layers and is thus quite puncture resistant. It's a racing tire. Flat spots develop when standing. Driving off in the morning it may shake a bit until warmed up and the flats are evened out. On sections with > 95% soft sand, BFG Baja T/A Sand tires can be used with a smoother profile and lower rolling resistance in sand. But they are also softer and thus less puncture resistant. The Baja T/A Rock is usually run at 32 psi on hard surfaces and deaired to 19 psi on sand, less if stuck.
