Mercedes-Benz Crash Tests

Mercedes standards: Independant safety standards based on real-world accident analysis
"In many countries, crash testing is a legal obligation for manufacturers to ensure vehicle safety. But even US safety regulations, the world's most stringent, only stipulate a frontal crash with 100% overlap and a crash into a 30-degree slant barrier. Is a car really safe if it only meets the legal impact safety requirements?
Mercedes engineers' answer is "no". "To simulate the widely varied conditions of real-world accidents, the Mercedes test procedure includes as many as 25 impact configurations developed on the basis of our unique accident research." Achieving compliance with internal Mercedes standards takes about 3/4 of all crash testing at Mercedes today.
