Mercedes-Benz M-class and S-class: The Most Beautiful Cars More than 51000 readers from "AutoStraßenverkehr" award the "Autonis" Stuttgart - Two Mercedes models prevailed in the competition for the "Most Beautiful Car of the Year" and were awarded the "Autonis" design prize by the automobile publication "AutoStraßenverkehr". The readers of the journal liked the S-class the most in the premium class and among off-roaders the M-class won the top spot. Beyond those, the CL- and C-class won second place each. The SLK- and CLK-class each achieved third place. This competition is held annually. 38.9 per cent of the submissions voted for the M-class as most beautiful off-roader. Even more stunning is the result for the S-class: 56.3 per cent picked it as the most attractive limousine in the premium class. In none of the other categories could the winner celebrate with such an overwhelming margin. Overall 51000 readers of "AutoStraßenverkehr" selected their favorites from 339 models in twelve categories. The prizes were awarded on April 3rd, 2001, in Berlin at the "Evening of Top-Designers", to the Mercedes-Benz design team, which is led by Peter Pfeiffer. Autonis - The Most Beautiful Cars of 2001. Pure emotion instead of braking distance, individual taste instead of invisible technology: Autonis means the Oscar for cars. With the stomach - like or dislike. Based on this simple formula, AutoStraßenverkehr initiated the first consumer choice award in Germany which is focussed on automobile form and design. And in 2002 Mercedes-Benz could repeat this tremendous success garnering four first places and three second places - more than any other manufacturer. And in 2003 Mercedes-Benz has once again emerged as the most successful car brand in the Autonis design competition organised by the specialist magazines AUTOStraßenverkehr and mot. Mercedes models celebrated victory in three categories, accepting the coveted Autonis award in recognition of their out-standing design quality at the presentation ceremony yesterday evening. Mercedes had three reasons to celebrate: The CLK Coupé makes a winning start, the E-Class celebrates its second victory and SL sports car is Germany's best-looking dream car. In 2004 Mercedes was for the third time in succession the most successful car brand winning this coveted design award in five of the twelve scoring categories. And in 2005 six Mercedes-Benz models placed in the top three in their categories, while the SLK and CLK coupe won them.
